FLORENCE, Ala. - Members of the University of North Alabama's PRIDE (Public Relations Individuals Dedicated to Excellence) organization won several medallion awards during this week's 2012 PRCA State Conference in Huntsville. During the student awards luncheon, seven current UNA students and five alumni took home a total of 16 awards of Merit and Excellence for their submissions into the competition against universities across the state. Not only did PRIDE members attend the conference, they also assisted in management and organization working alongside conference officials. "This year's PRCA student medallion awards competition reinforces our reputation," said Lisa Darnell. "Dr. Garfrerick and I are incredibly proud of our students, the work they do, and the recognition they receive for their efforts." Winners of the competition included Jessica Addison, Jamie Brooks, Kendall Brown, Chelsea Bryant, Beth Champion, Jordan Graben, Traci Hite, Corine Jackson, Jordan Jaggers, Alison Lee, Jessica Rich, Victoria Shin and Jennie Sun. All of which are previous or current public relations majors and PRIDE members. Dr. Beth Garfrerick, assistant professor of public relations and journalism, said the conference was a successful event. "This year's convention was hosted by the North Alabama Chapter of the Public Relations Council of Alabama, so many of our students were able to participate in planning and executing the conference," she said.
